Artist Residency

Artists in Residence.  Two artists visit each of our participating classroom sites with special needs populations for an hour long training session in the arts. Here are examples of past residencies. In 2005, artist Suzanne Parisien Frank led students in creating clay tiles that were installed in a giant CityScape mural at the festival.  Artist Tim Perkins led students in creating original silk screened t-shirts that they wore to the festival. Information will be sent to registered to registered VSA arts teachers.

About the Artists

Suzanne Parisien Frank, began sculpturing with clay in 1988, making earrings and broaches.  Following the creative forms of Erte, Rodin and Michelangelo as mentors, Suzanne studied human anatomy in depth and began making fine figurines from porcelain, white clay and terra cotta.  Her works included, but are not limited to nudes, flappers, ghostly spirits, floral designs, children, busts, animals, candelabra, and vases, all of which are hand built.

Suzanne is basically self-taught.  She took basic courses at Broward Community College in Florida , then at the University of North Carolina .  She also studied under the great Martine Vaugell.  Suzanne’s sculptures are all original, unique, and no pieces are duplicated.  All her work bears the etched signature of the artist.  French Canadian born, Suzanne now resides in Suntree with her husband, Marshall, who is a retired police captain and author of four books.

Tim Perkins,  (a.k.a. “Mr. Science”), brings 25 years of practical experience in graphic design and communication including as a commercial illustrator and product designer. With an Art degree in Advertising Design, Tim has produced and directed multi-media advertising campaigns using broadcast, print and multimedia content.  Over ten years of hands-on experience working with kids of every age and ability has shown Tim that the best way to share his talent as a designer, teacher and performer is through interactive communications.

Tim enjoys reading, painting and sculpting, computer programming, martial arts, rocketry, and exploring.  His two children attend Brevard County Public Schools.
